I ran out of time on this one. Needed a tripod to get this right. But this is what I got. Did have fun playing with the settings as I explored. Will continue to try as the weeks go on. I do like how I can see the person beyond the speeding car. I wish though, that I could have been steady enough to have the people to the left in focus. (Maybe they were moving too.)

Most winter ( and Fall and Spring) days are rainy and gray in the Pacific Northwest. So when the sun finally shines, it is a celebration. Love this coral bark maple on a rare blue sky day.

I kept hoping to get outside and play with my camera this week. And I did some of that. But the weather was gray and drizzly and not best for this assignment. Decided to play with the idea of focusing on something in the background and blurring the foreground. I was limited by the light I had and no available tripod so it isn't as clear as I would like. But I think that I got the hang out of how to do it.
This is a pair of socks I am working on. Gray drizzly days are much more conducive to knitting. :)

I believe that this is now my 7th year to participate in a photo challenge. Last year was rough. I wasn't part of a specific challenge and I was just kind of making up the rules as I went. I am firmly in the habit of looking for and taking photos daily. So even when I didn't get them posted every day, those good habits didn't suffer. But I did often find myself sitting down a few weeks later and posting a few week's worth at once.
This year promises to be a challenging year in other areas of my life. I foresee being able to post meaningful pictures daily to be a bit of a challenge with the schedule I will need to keep. With that in mind, and my need for some kind of inspiration and direction, I have chosen to participate in a few other challenges that will help me grow as a photographer and reflect on my life as a learner without the need to necessarily process pictures daily.
So stay tuned as I tackle a few new goals and challenges and continue to learn and grow. Here are the things I plan to use as guidelines and goals.
1. I am a faithful, but lazy photographer. This year, I want to really practice and learn the technical skills to make me a better photographer. I want to move my camera to manual and really learn and understand how to use all that my camera has to offer. Instead of working for daily shots, I am going to work on picking some exceptional shots that took a little more effort than point and shoot. Among other things, I plan to follow the Boost Your Photography 52 Week challenge focusing on a different skill each week.
2. I am also planning (if time allows), to participate in a few topic challenges to help me keep looking for new ways to see things. I have joined 2 new Flickr Groups, 52 in 2015 and Monthly Scavenger Hunt 2.0. Hopefully, being a part of these groups of other photographers will be a great challenge and inspiration.
