Today we got to go see the Mariners and Rangers in a Spring Training game in Surprise, AZ. It was really fun to see all the fans at the game. We were in the front row right behind the Mariner's dugout. We even got a signature from Milton Bradley. (not my favorite player, but he was signing.) Was fun to see so many young kids so into the game. The man sitting next to us was from Cour d'Alene. He was there to see the Mariners, but was also excited to see one of his former 6th grade students playing for the Rangers. Was fun for him to cheer on this unknown player. Made me think that every one of the players has their 6th grade teacher (and other teachers too) cheering him on. Our students become part of our life long family, and we continue to cheer on their successes.

Today is my dad's birthday. He loves cactus and wildflowers. So this is for him. Erik and I explored the mountains around Phoenix today. The wildflowers are absolutely spectacular right now. We tromped around the very green desert taking wildflower photos, explored, ghost towns and ate some great Mexican food.

Today we traveled from Palm Desert to Scottsdale. The highlight of our trip was a drive on the Box Canyon Highway south of Indio. We pulled over and hiked out into the desert. We saw a great variety of wildflowers.

This afternoon, Erik had the chance to go hit some balls with his dad. I did some exploring on my own. Found a beautiful desert garden and had fun taking lots of photos.

Drove from Sacramento to Palm Desert today. The weather was beautiful. Lots of wildflowers along the highway. We enjoyed stopping at a few roadside fruitstands and exploring an airplane graveyard. Took this photo on the way to Erik's dad's house for dinner. Such a clear and beautiful evening.

Erik and I drove from Vancouver, WA to Sacramento today. Started off rainy, but by the time we got to California, it was beautiful. Mount Shasta was beautiful and bold as we drove by. Tonight we made our pilgrimage to Texas Roadhouse. Erik's favorite restaurant. This old truck in the parking lot caught my eye. I should be sharing Mt. Shasta photos I know, but this one was a bit more unique. Will be putting all of our road trip pictures in a set and will share them as well

Rainy day here. We are on our way out for a Spring Break Roadtrip. Decided to stop in at the Discovery Garden to see if I could find a photo. (In case Erik won't stop once we get on the road tonight...:) Looking through their potting shed, the boquet of flowers caught my eye. Then I noticed I wasn't the only one enjoying the fresh cut flowers from the garden.

Driving to Gig Harbor for my tech meeting today. The GPS took me off the highway due to traffic. I drove right past the Poodle Dog. Roswell would be offended. He is not a big fan of at least a few poodle dogs although he'd probably get over the name here if they served him food. Erik remembers stopping here as a child with his mom and grandma on many occasions.

I know that is still early, but my tulips don't seem to be putting on the show that they have done in the past. So instead of looking at the masses of tulips in my yard, I will concentrate on the few. Looking forward to masses of tulips in the fields very soon.

Spring has been in the air for quite a while now, but the first official day of Spring isn't until tomorrow. Enjoyed another picture perfect day today. Starting to see a few tulips bloom, but this daffodil was posing with the blue blue sky as a background.

There is a bumper sticker around here that says, "Save Skagit Farmland, Live on a Hill". As you know from my many photos of the farmland, I do love our farmland and I am happy to help out by living on a hill. This was my view tonight at the highschool only two minutes from my house.

Home from my 3rd meeting of the day at 9pm. So hoping for a better photo for today, but this will have to be it. Have several starts on my kitchen windowsill. The broccoli was the first to take off.

The dailyshoot today was easy. All I had to do was take a photo of a plant or a tree. I do that most days. So, when I got home from work, I took a look around my yard for a bit of a different angle.

This ugly thing is worn on my upper arm every day and keeps track of steps, calories burned and sleep quality. This, along with journaling my food choices is helping me get a better handle on what I need to do to be more fit. I find that when I am wearing it, I seem to find more ways to be active. I've set myself a fitness goal and when I reach it, I will get a DSLR. I'm getting closer.

Went to the Discovery Garden on this gray, windy and cold day. Not a lot of new stuff blooming. Still love exploring the garden to see what is budding etc. The wind was really whipping around making it hard to get photos of flowers of trees, but this little "flower" stood still for me.

Today I had the opportunity to work with kids filming a video about their school/community garden. These kids meet weekly to tend the garden and learn about real food. The topic of their video was "Real Food" This is part of a Farm to School grant.

The daily shoot challenged me to shoot something blue this morning. With the forecast calling for rain and the skies a little gray, when I saw some blue sky to the west before work, I decided to head out and see if I could find it. I did find some blue sky and I did take a photo for the dailyshoot, but decided to choose another photo for my photo of the day. Since taking on this challenge, I seem to notice the Olympic Mountains to the west a lot more. The long chain of mountains seems to call for a panoramic shot rather than a normally cropped photo. Mondays are always difficult for photos due to a packed schedule, so getting out early was probably a good idea. But it has actually been sunny most of the day. We even saw a few confused snow flakes in the sunshine at one point today.

Erik and I are blessed with the best neighbors. A few days ago, one of our neighbors brought these pretty little daffodils over in a pot to thank us for giving her the name of a good contractor. These kinds of good deeds are the norm in our neighborhood. We share, we help, we pray, we hug, we keep watch, we laugh, we smile, we wave and all the other things that good neighbors should do for each other. So happy to live in such a great place.

Another daffodil shot. Another stellar day. I just can't believe the perfect weekend weather we have been having. We spent all day doing yard work. It was great to be outside. I went out to a nursery out in the farm fields. Couldn't resist taking another shot... or two or three. I was not alone, lots of tourist from Seattle and Vancouver out taking photos as well. Tulip traffic has arrived before the tulips have bloomed.

Hung around at Pike Place Market after the conference was over today waiting for the traffic to die down. Pike Place Market is one of my favorite places in the world and the flower market is my favorite part of the market. Always such color! Here is my set of photos from this visit to Seattle.
Thursday, March 4, 2010
Lots of night photos lately, because I have been busy in the conference during the day. Tonight we went to the Seattle Aquarium to hear Philippe Cousteau talk about caring for the environment. Took this photo on the way back to the hotel.

I'm in Seattle for a conference. I got here early enough this morning to get out and take some photos before my workshop and then headed out again after my workshop. Got some neat market and sunset shots, but this crew out for a walk was my favorite scene of the day.

Heading home after dark tonight. No time to take a photo during my busy day. The lights of the taco truck caught my eye. These trucks go out to the fields during the day and then return to town for dinner.
