These brightly colored tomato cages caught my eye at the farm store this afternoon. I was looking for something to remind me of my sweet Daddy, who had surgery today, for my photo of the day. My first thought was pansies. Not because he is a pansy, but because his pansies used to be be a neighborhood attraction. I found some pansies, but I decided on the tomato cages instead. My dad has shared his love of gardening with me.
The surgery went well and he has some recovery to do, but he is going to be fine. Looking forward to getting to see him and the rest of my family next week.

04-29-10 Outside My Office Door
I keep admiring these beautiful trees as I walk in and out of the office. Even walking into the building, I get to see the beautiful reflection of the colorful trees.

04-28-10 Tweeter
After sharing Tweets yesterday, decided to share a "tweeter" today. I am sure that I should know what this bird is, but I do not. Could not identify from my bird book, and I am still pretty new to birding in the Northwest.

04-27-10 Tweets
Thought this was a fun sign in the funky little nearby town of Edison. Wonder if Tweets has a Twitter feed.

04-26-10 Rain Kissed
Racing the setting sun tonight looking for a photo. Mondays are hard days for me to find photos. After walking Roswell in the rain, I decided my only choice for a photo was here in my own yard. Found some pretty rain kissed flowers.

04-25-10 Pinks and Greens
It is the time of year that I take and share lots of photos from my garden. Something new everyday. Not going to worry about being trite, just gonna do it. :) Out in my garden today and just noticed the pinks of the tulip, the bleeding hearts and the currant.

04-24-10 Out of the Rain
It was pouring down rain as I did my shopping in Burlington. As I drove over the bridge into Mount Vernon, the weather changed.

04-23-10 Bursting into Bloom
I love walking through my garden this time of year. There is always something new just about to bloom.

04-22-10 Golden Chain, Pink Dogwood and BLUE Sky!
Waiting and watching for the clouds to part on this 40th Anniversary of Earth Day. Finally some blue. This Golden Chain tree and Pink Dogwood are across the street from the office. Such beautiful color and welcome to Spring.

04-21-10 Maritime
Stopped in Poulsbo on my way home today. Took a quick walk around the historic downtown area. Glad that I didn't head straight to the ferry. Cute little town. Lots of these cool blue benches all around town. Lots of Norwegian heritage.

04-20-10 Peace, Love and Ice Cream
Another hard photo day today. In beautiful Gig Harbor, but it was a rainy day and I was in a meeting. Went for a walk in the rain this morning and saw these cool cows. They won the prize for my photo of the day. Unfortunately, it was way before the store opened, so no ice cream for me.

04-19-10 Blue Bridge
It was one of those days. Busy from sun up to sun down. Really questioned whether I would get a photo. Making my monthly trip to Gig Harbor for a meeting. Encountered the Tacoma Narrows Bridge after dark. Not the best, but will have to do for tonight.

04-18-10 Window to the World
Erik and I went to our first regular season Mariners game of the year today. Beautiful weather. I always enjoy the games, but I also really enjoy exploring in Seattle. Here are some other photos from our day.

Folk Dancing
Today we enjoyed a walk down to the Tulip Festival Street Fair. Had fun taking photos, sharing Roswell information to all his many fans and just people watching. This group from Otavalo, Ecuador are always at the fair. Often I will stop and talk Ecuador with them when they are not playing. This brother and sister were having a great time dancing to the music. Here is a slideshow of other photos from the street fair.

04-16-10 Itsy Bitsy Spider
I love when I am taking macros and discover something I didn't even know I was pointing my camera at. There are many wonders when you take the time to really look close at something.

04-15-10 On Watch
We get to see lots of eagles here. More and more frequently, I am even seeing eagles right in town. Even with the frequency of seeing eagles, each time I see an eagle, I am in awe of their majesty. Now I just need to get a really good lens so that I can do them justice.

04-14-10 Wanted and Unwanted
Paid a visit to the Discovery Garden on this our first sunny day of the week. Dandelions make a great photographic subject when they are in someone else's garden.

Tulip Traffic
Even on a gray Tuesday afternoon, you can find tulip traffic along the tulip route. Seeing the tulips by bicycle is probably the best way to see the fields. You don't have to worry about finding places to park and you can speed past the lines of cars.

04-12-10 Red and Green
Did this for the daily shoot and was planning another photo for my photo of the day. But things got in the way, so I will use yet another tulip photo. They have started to top the tulips. Went out before school this morning hoping to see the tulips at least once more. This field was still intact as were many others. But I did see a few fields of topped tulips and I know that soon that

North to Vancouver
Walked downtown with Roswell this morning. The Amtrak was just leaving for Vancouver as we walked over the viaduct. Made for a quaint Mount Vernon shot.

04-10-10 Sunlit Tulip
Tulip traffic was crazy today so I spent most of the day in my own garden. As I worked, I had my camera with me to catch the just so shots. I liked the way the sun was lighting this tulip.

04-09-10 Tulip Harvest
Most of our tulips are actually grown for the bulbs, but cut tulips are also processed and sold here. Just one of the many, many crops harvested in our valley.

04-08-10 Skagit Cows
Since I don't have a big, fancy camera, it was easy to fulfill the challenge of using minimal gear. The difficulty today was finding time to take a photo. Took this on on our way home for dinner. Noticed the new dusting of snow on the foothills. Heard that they got over 2 feet of new snow in the mountains. The snowy hills and clouds are what caught my eye, the cows are what made the photo complete.

04-07-10 Bleeding Heart
Gray, windy and cold here today. It is like our Spring was switched with Winter. Wasn't sure what I would find on such a dreary day. Went out to explore my gardens in the drizzle. Lots of tulips and fading daffodils. This Bleeding Heart was kind of hiding unnoticed among the showier flowers.

04-06-10 Olympic Tulips
Drove to a meeting in Anacortes this morning. Kind of cloudy, but the Olympics were peaking through making for a nice backdrop for these fields of tulips.

04-05-10 Unique
First chance to get out to the tulip fields since they began blooming while we were away. This red bulb must have ended up in the wrong bin.

04-04-10 Morning Drive
Last leg of the journey today. Medford to Mount Vernon. Started off foggy, but turned out to be a better than forecasted day. Not many photo opportunities as we were anxious to get home and didn't make many stops.

04-03-10 Paperless Classroom
Today we traveled from sunny Fresno to snowy Medford on our way back to rainy Washington. We made a stop in Sacramento where we toured the capitol and explored Old Town. This school house was in Old Town. I was thinking about the theme of "paper" for the dailyshoot and saw this scene. I thought, "this is a paperless classroom!" Something that we strive for now a days.

04-02-10 Poppy Reserve
Heading from Phoenix to Fresno today, Erik and I decided to go to the Antelope Hills Poppy Reserve near Lancaster. The poppies and other wildflowers were beautiful. I know that Erik suggested going, because last year, we saw 3 rattlesnakes. This year, no snakes, but lots of beautiful flowers and a great walk. It was way windy so very hard to get close ups of still wildflowers. The wildflowers are really beautiful closeup, but the real story here is how the hills are carpeted by thousands of flowers.

04-01-10 The Peanut Guy
Last Spring Training game of the year. Today we went to Peoria to see the Mariners play the White Sox. Mariners didn't have many of their top players today, but it was still fun. We were excited to see that the Peanut Guy that we always see tossing peanuts behind his back to fans in the stands was also a vendor at this game. The forecast had called for rain, wind and cold, believe it or not, but it turned out to be a beautiful day. Before we went to the game, we visited the state capitol and walked around the surrounding monuments. This is something that Erik and I try to do in each state as we travel on our road trips. We also went to a great little Mexican restaurant for some yummy breakfast burritos. Even though the Mariners lost, we had a great day.
