Needed to clear my head of high yield strategies and electronic grade books for just a little while after work today. Decided to take a drive out to LaConner. After a quick dinner with Erik and a long walk with Roswell, I will be back at the strategies and gradebooks. Just that type of week.

09-29-10 Lurking
Yesterday corn in the window, today a vampire. You just never know what might be gracing the windows in down town Mount Vernon. Stay tuned, I know of at least one more interesting character lurking in downtown Mount Vernon.

09-28-10 Corn Colored
My photo a day challenge has me looking for photos everywhere. Can't really explain this one. But for some reason, this newly painted corn colored building, has two windowsills lined with corn.

09-27-10 Learning from Charlotte
Last week, a wonderful teacher friend of mine shared how her reading lesson was interrupted by the wonder of a spider on the classroom window. The students watched the spider in awe, asked lots of great questions and made wonderful observations. They even named the spider Charlotte. This spider is hanging outside my window at home. I am happy to watch her as she spins her amazing web. We all have something to learn from Charlotte.

09-26-10 Red Truck
I've seen this truck, which is actually an old fire truck before, but this location seemed the perfect place for a photo.

09-25-10 Wisps Over Mount Baker
Warm and sunny on this first Saturday of fall. Had to go to Washington Bulb to pick up the tulip bulbs my dad ordered and took a few Mount Baker shots on my way back.

09-21-10 Ready for Fall
Although the official start to autumn is still about 24 hours away here, it is beginning to look a lot like fall.

09-20-10 View From the Cemetery
My very busy day ended with a sunset walk. This is the view from the highschool parking lot looking out over the cemetery to the valley below. Always peaceful and especially beautiful on a good sunset night.

09-19-10 Coming Rain
The weather was changing as we went on a walk this morning. The wind was blowing and the blue skies were quickly becoming gray.

09-18-10 Today's Harvest
Decided today was the day to pull my carrots. I hadn't thinned the carrots because they needed thinning while we were on vacation. So there were some little carrots, but some big ones as well. I had no hope for my potato harvest thanks to a herd of hungry slugs so I was surprized to find that my blue potatoes had actually survived. No red, white and blue this year, but at least I got blue.

09-17-10 Sunflower Critter
The sun came out just long enough to enjoy the colorful sunflowers today. Spent most of my day with numbers and computer screens, this was a welcome change.

09-15-10 Rudbeckia
I love the rudbeckia this time of the year. Everything else is fading away and this showy plant is strutting it's stuff. Supposed to be an easy plant to grow, but I haven't had much luck. Just bought two more plants to try.

Rainbow of Greens
I couldn't even venture to tell you what kinds of greens are being harvested here. Looks like a whole rainbow of greens. Foggy morning and the splash of color was the people hard at work.

09-13-10 Hanging Out
Lots of little frogs at the Discovery Garden pond today. They were nice enough to pose while I took a few photos.

09-11-10 Alley Musicians
Today we walked down to the Farmer's Market. On the way home, we saw some people cleaning an alley. The Downtown Business Association had scrub brushes and brooms and were busy cleaning the alley. But just to make the chore a bit more enjoyable, they had a band playing in the alley while they scrubbed.

09-10-10 Sweet Corn
Love these honor stands where you take what you want and put your money in the box. Nothing better than fresh local corn.

09-09-10 Old Main
Amazing how peaceful a building can look on the outside even when there is tons of learning and activity going on inside. I've noticed this the last two days as I have visited schools. The buildings look quiet and majestic on the outside, but walking inside shows a building alive with excitement and learning.

09-08-10 First Day Of School
Today was the first day of school. This is my third year out of the classroom and it still feels very strange to be starting a new school year without a new family of kids to learn and grow with. There are lots of things I love about my job now, but I sure do miss that excitement of the first day of school.

Not really autumn yet, but it sure felt like it today as the rain, wind and cool weather came in today. These leaves are ready for a beautiful show.

09-01-10 My Other Garden
The last day of August felt a lot like November, so the first day of September was a pleasant surprise. Decided to visit the Discovery Garden and soak in a bit of the beauty after work today. Most of my photos of the garden are close ups of flowers and such. Today, I decided to share a bit more of the big picture. This is one of the beautiful vegetable gardens. I have a lot to learn from these incredible teaching gardens.
