Decided to go a bit less birdy with my last photo of the year. I convinced Erik to go out the Samish Flats to see the Dunlin today. We took a video. I got some great shots of eagles, but I decided to let the blue sky and the mountain get the attention today. Yay! I made it through year 2 of the 365 Day Challenge! On to year 3! It is now just part of what I do every day. I can not imagine not doing it. Of course, most days will be much more mundane than this gorgeous day and view. I need to remember that I am learning, looking and documenting life. Some days I will end up with a photo you might hang on your wall, and other days, I probably wont. Happy New Year to all of you who have stuck with me throughout the year. I look forward to looking for the beautiful and meaningful in the new year.

I know, another bird picture. That has definitely been the theme this week. Very icy here this morning so my photo shoot had to be on foot. Roswell and I walked downtown and then down by the river. I learned that plowed roads, means no sidewalks, but we managed. The sky is so blue today. I was enjoying watching the swans fly to their feeding grounds. But these guys decided to hang out at the river's edge today instead of moving out further in the fields.

Looked out this morning and there were giant swirling snowflakes. Looked almost blizzard like but was short lived. After it stopped, thought I'd drive out in the farm fields to get some photos with the snow. No snow there. Just a few miles from my house and there was no snow at all. But, of course, I still found a few things to take photos of. You'd never know that I took this photo on a snowy day. My photos have been rather birdy this week, but this is the best shot of a skiddish heron that I have gotten so far, so I decided to choose this photo for my photo of the day.

Had another fun morning out taking photos. This was not my best photo of the day, but I like the lines of color and the story it tells about about our valley. Potatoes, Snow Geese, Trumpeter Swans, Raspberries on a gray day.

Still pretty gray here today, but headed out in search of some of Skagit's beautiful wintering birds. Saw some dunlin dancing, falcons swooping, eagles watching and this pretty hawk hunting.

Erik needed to go to his lab at Warm Beach today. I jumped at the chance for Roswell and I to go with him, even though the weather was pretty yucky. I wanted to try out my new lens. When we got there, it was raining. I put a plastic bag over the camera and headed out on a muddy walk on the dike with Roswell. With those conditions, my photos weren't the best, but I did enjoy seeing heron, egrets, dunlin, ducks, falcons, hawks and this single swan. Not sure why he was hanging out alone.

Actually took this from the shuttle on my way home from the airport Wednesday night. But I just found it on this camera. I got a clearer shot of the hustle and bustle leading up to Christmas in downtown Seattle, but I liked the effect of this one. Hope that everyone is now settling down for a peaceful time with family and friends. Merry Christmas.

Back from my trip to Texas and putting the finishing touches on the Christmas plans and prep today. Since it is a gray and rainy day, I decided to double dip and use my DailyShoot photo for my Photo of the Day. This is one of the many ornaments from our well traveled tree. We got this ornament at Rocky Mountain National Park.

I made my pilgrimage to the Stephen F. Austin Arboretum this afternoon. This is on the campus of my university but more importantly, the site of my wedding. Even though it was the first day of winter, and the gardens had been put to bed, it was 84 degrees and almost felt like it was the summer day. (Well, not really, considering, summer days in Nacogdoches can be oppressively hot. This was pleasantly warm.

Enjoying another beautiful East Texas day with family. Tonight we went down to the square to see the lights. I have a family of shutterbugs and photographers so we were snapping lots of shots.

I'm in Nacogdoches, Texas to visit family before Christmas. Today, my nephew, the photography major and me, went for a photo walk through the Native Plant Garden. Amazing that it is still fall here and we have already had snow at home.

Beautiful clear day today. The Olympics were out, Mount Baker was gleaming and even Mount Rainier was making an appearance early this morning.

Took this last night on my walk with Roswell. There was finally a break in the rain. I liked the white light on the old white picket fence. I am amazed at how much more light there is on the night streets with all of the Christmas lights. I can actually see where I am going.

Not even winter yet and the first signs of spring are already here. Very soggy day here. Remembered I had seen these bulb shoots in the field the other day. I love the way I now notice the changes in the seasons this way. Even on a very gray and soggy day, signs of Spring color are already present.

I seem to have a bird theme going on lately. This area is such a great place for birds in the winter. Saw several eagles, hawks, herons and swans today out in the sogginess of the day.

Really raining this morning. Tried taking some rainy photos before school this morning, but as I was heading work, the sun broke through and I was able to find these swans as they moved across the valley this morning.

Each year we choose an ornament to add to our tree from our travels. This year's ornament was from our trip to Arizona for Spring Training. Great trip and great memories. Too bad the Mariners didn't have a better year. But we also watched the Rangers, (my other team) and they did fantastic.

Today was all about the birds. Went to Samish Island. On the way I saw eagles, hawks, heron, geese, swans and more. There are some of the more. Need to figure out what these guys are. Hundreds of them flying in mass at this spot.

We seem to be drawn to smaller versions of big things. There is nothing cuter than a puppy, or a tiny pair of Converse Sneakers. Today these little guys were in the parking lot and I just thought that they needed to be photographed.

Had just a few minutes to take a photo and I pulled over to take a photo of this barn with the clouds bumping up against the snow dusted hills. When I got home, I found that I had missed the hills. They just faded away in the clouds. So, all we have is yet another old barn.

Happy December! The lighting this morning as the sun tried to break through the low clouds as it rose in the sky lit up the valley in a beautiful way. The silhouettes from looking east and the strong light with dark cloud back drop in the back looking west made for lots of oohs and ahs.
