The snow is melting and there are little signs of spring all around. Besides these little blossoms, the birds were all out singing this morning.

After another 2-3 inches of snow on top of our 18 or so already there, I think that we have started the melting process. Still beautiful and white outside, but I am starting to see the hints of spring peek through again.

On our 4th day of snow here. The snow has really been distracting me from getting some of my many projects done. So, today, I vowed to stay in and get them done, even if it was beautiful and snowy outside. This little squirrel helped keep me on task by posing outside the window. I am still trying to attract birds to my feeders, so I scattered some seed on the ground to help entice them. This is who came to visit instead.

Took this photo last evening after I had already posted my photo of the day. So I am little ahead of the game today.
This was the view from the parking lot of the high school right by my house. (Well, I did zoom in on the scene.) We are on the flight path of the daily swan migration from the fields in the day to the lakes and ponds in the evening. I never get tired of hearing their honking and looking up to watch them fly by.

Crazy snow day here. Started snowing and sticking after the normal call it time. Most teachers and some students made it to school before it was actually canceled. Took this photo early in the day so that I could get inside and get warm after walking to and from school this morning.

The day before from the third level, we had noticed the Pine Marten tracks in the snow. www.flickr.com/photos/roswellsgirl/5467837612/
Erik and I got up early and searched for the best place to catch the rising sun on the mountains. We tromped through several feet of snow and hopped across streams to get to the perfect place to welcome the day.
Marco Torres says that when telling stories with photos, be sure to share the where, the what and the how. It would be easy for me to pick photos of the glorious mountain scenes for each of the days we were at Holden, but even though the beauty would be enough to make Holden an incredible place, the community, the creativity and the culture of Holden are what makes it extra special. So, in a place with no cars, no cell phones, no televisions, etc. Holdenites find creative ways to pass their time. Here some villagers and visitors are playing broom hockey. Two of the participants are exchange students from Afghanistan.
Erik and I were blessed with an amazing weekend at Holden Village up in the Glacier Peak Wilderness area. This is a community where Erik lived before we met and the place we got together 13 years ago. So there are lots of very special memories in this beautiful place for both of us. This was my first opportunity to visit Holden in the winter. As you can see, the weather was glorious. We went on great snow shoeing hikes every day. Still processing my photos. I took over 700, need to do some weeding. But hard to do with this much beauty.

This being my 3rd year of documenting each day with a photo, I look forward to those special seasonal signs of change. Today was my first day to see people in the fields harvesting daffodils for cut flowers. It is fun to look forward to these signs each year. Just one way I now see the world in a new way. I know to look for things that others don't expect or notice. I am especially fond of taking photos of people working in the fields. I like to put a face on those daffodils you buy in the grocery store.

We went with Erik to Warm Beach today so he could do lab work. Not quite a sunny day, but nicer than many lately. Roswell and I enjoyed a nice walk along the dike. We saw most of the usual subjects, swans, hawks, eagles, ducks and herons. No egrets or kingfishers today.

I am really trying to attract birds to my new feeders. But all I seem to be attracting is squirrels.

The last two mornings I have gotten up early to go out and explore while I have been in Bremerton. Both mornings, it has been socked in with fog. This morning I rushed over to Scenic Beach State Park before my meeting. I didn't have a lot of time, so I just snapped a few shots. Looks like a beautiful place. I am looking forward to returning and spending more time.

Beautiful day today. The sky was amazing from sun up to sun down. Unfortunately, I didn't have many good opportunities to get out and take photos. Took this one on my way between meetings.

We have signs up throughout the farm fields that remind us to share the road with farm vehicles. Perhaps these birds need a reminder that they too need to share the road with me.

While most of the nation is experiencing harsh weather, we have had an absolutely glorious day here. Cold, but sunny. Sunny means a whole lot to people living in the Northwest. Unfortunately, I didn't have many outside opportunities today, so I looked inside for a bit of the fleeting sunshine this evening.
