Just another hint of Spring. Spring is having a hard time showing its glory because it has been drenched in rain. Looks like maybe the last few hours of March might actually go out like a lamb, but it has definitely been a lot more lionish that lambish all month long.

Not the best photo, but I thought it showed a bit of the character of where I live. This is definitely tulip country and although the tulips are probably still a month away from blooming, there are year long signs that tulips are an important part of the Skagit Valley culture.

It promises to be another stormy week ahead. Went out before work this morning to try to catch a little color before the gray week ahead. You can see it coming, but the daffs add a bit of sunshine even on a stormy day.
A quick trip across the mountains and the scenery changes drastically. Gone are the towering lush evergreens replaced by stark rolling hills, farmland and ghosts of towns.

Erik and I decided to take a very spontaneous trip to Coeur d' Alene, Idaho today. On the way, I spotted this old school off in the distance. We turned off and explored the ghost town of Govan, Washington. A nice find just off a highway we have traveled several times before.

This is the first day in forever that we have had blue skies and Baker views. Got brave and snuck up (probabaly trespassed) a bit closer to this barn today to get this shot. It doesn't show the majesty of Baker on a day like today, but I like the details in the barn. And the BLUE sky.

Always nice to see a car with a little personality. Not that I would want to be the one driving it. Actually took this photo yesterday, but I thought that this car deserved a chance to be a part of my challenge... :)

We visited Port Townsend today to check on some puppies. I of course took some photos of the puppies, but I think that I will wait until we decide if one of these is indeed the puppy for us, before I take a photo of the day of them. They are very, very, cute. They will be big, friendly, but not Roswell. This boat was in the boat yard where we ate a great breakfast for lunch at the Blue Moose Cafe

Waited this guy out quite a while. He was hunkered down. I wanted him to get up and strut so I could get a good photo. We were both pretty persistent and I got kind of a compromise of the shot I wanted.

The daffodils are so close. They are just waiting for a sunny day to pop open. (We are all waiting for a sunny day around here. ) But in the meantime, workers are picking selected bunches of unopened sunshine for people to share with others.

I'm not quite in my groove yet. Went to the Discovery Garden looking for a bit of inspiration. Really blustery. Everything is late blooming and the wind made it difficult to capture any of the little flowers that were blooming. But this little guy stood still just long enough.

Erik and I love Indian food. Too bad there are no nearby places to curve our craves. Snapped this shot with my phone while passing the kitchen last night when we were in Seattle. Marco Torres talks about taking where, what and how photos. I am good at the where and what, need to work on the how photos.

Today was a day full of dogs. We visited the Lucky Dog Shelter event and saw tons of shelter dogs. Then we went to the Seattle Dog Show where we saw all kinds of wagging tails. All in all, it was informative, but pretty overwhelming.

Today we visited several shelters in hopes of finding the perfect pet. We actually didn't see many that would even be close to being a good fit. It always saddens me to see so many Pit Bulls in the shelter. Many have been abused and are then confiscated. Very sad. I have met some very well behaved, smart and friendly Pit Bulls, but they are not the right fit for us.
We know that we can never replace Roswell, but we are looking for a puppy to help our home feel a bit more complete again. Our preference is big to giant, beautiful and goofy. A puppy who tilts his head and follows along in conversations. One with a big vocabulary who responds to bone, dinner, breakfast, “up the street” (That means we are going to La Casita), leash, shoes, walk and the dreaded poodle or bath. A puppy who is gentle, loving and happy and would not harm a fly. (Well, maybe a fly, they are pretty pesky.) A puppy who loves to snuggle and take up as much space on the bed as he can. A puppy who loves to run through the woods chasing squirrels and rabbits, but is a bit scared of fireworks and sounds in the night. A puppy who will gladly go on a long walk rain or shine. A puppy who is always happy to see us and has a friendly greeting for everyone he meets. If you know of any puppies or young dogs that are available and come even close to fitting that description, please let us know.

Took a few photos today. But they were all sad. Decided to use a photo from last week that is more hopeful. The fields are a great place to reflect on the seasons of our life.
To everything there is a season,
a time for every purpose under the sun.
A time to be born and a time to die;
a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
a time to kill and a time to heal ...
a time to weep and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn and a time to dance ...
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to lose and a time to seek;
a time to rend and a time to sew;
a time to keep silent and a time to speak;
a time to love and a time to hate;
a time for war and a time for peace.

Sadly and suddenly, we lost Roswell last night. Roswell was such a wonderful dog. A gentle giant who loved everyone he met. Roswell brought such love, loyalty and laughter into our home. His passing has left us with a huge hole. We found our precious friend at a shelter 6 years ago. He was the perfect fit for our family. We all seemed to know how truly blessed we were to have found each other. We love him and we miss him. We are broken hearted. As I sorted through my many photos, I couldn't pick just one to use. Each photo brings back special memories and shows something different about this creature so full of personality.

My photo of the day is not from today. Unfortunately, Roswell is very sick at the moment and that is what is on my mind. We've had Roswell for almost 7 years now. He has always been the picture of health. The vet is always commenting on how he still looks and acts like a puppy. That was even true this morning. But he was not well at all when I stopped in at lunch. He is under the care of a great vet, so Roswell's Girl is hoping and praying that my faithful friend will make it through.

Since most of my day was spent in front of my computer, I didn't have a lot of photo opportunities. But these little guys have invaded my office so I had plenty of opportunities to take photos of these guys as they crawled over my keyboard, screen, etc. I much prefer them in my garden.

This morning I walked downtown in Portland. I made a stop and the famous and very quirky VooDoo Doughnuts. The guy standing in front of me in line, only added to the quirkiness.
