So nice to come home and find my garden in pretty good shape. Needs some work, but there are lots of neat treasures to find as I peek through the over abundant daisies.

07/29/11 Happy Reunion
Via Flickr:
So happy to see our giant puppy after our long journey. I think that he gained about 15 pounds while we were gone. He is huge! But still Holden.
07/28/11 Crop Duster
Via Flickr:
We saw lots of crop dusters as we drove through Southern Idaho and Eastern Oregon. At times it looked like they were going to land right on the freeway.
07/27/11 Upside Down and in the Air
Via Flickr:
We visited the Olympic Park in Park City, Utah. This was the sight of the 2002 Winter Olympics. Atheletes take full advantage of this training center even during the summer. We enjoyed watching the skiiers practices their jumps into a big pool. It was impressing to see the accomplished atheletes, but maybe even more impressive to see what some tiny little kids are capable of. Wow! In addition to the pool, they were also practicing on the ski jumps and the bobsled track. A very cool place to visit.
07/26/11 Welcome to Park City
Via Flickr:
Park City has been named one of the places you should visit before you die. I was just happy to finally see it after a very long day traveling across Wyoming on the interstate. Park City is beautiful and we enjoyed our brief stay there.

07-25-11 Denver Botanical Gardens
Via Flickr:
Visited the Denver Botanical Gardens this morning. Took lots of photos of flowers. After we left, we went to the Celestial Seasonings Factory tour and then drove to the beautiful Rocky Mountain National Park. Although I love flower photos, the flower photos don't really do a good job of documenting our day, but that is all I have. The Rocky Mountains are so grand, I just didn't feel that I could justify what I was seeing with a photo.

07/24/11 Great Sand Dunes National Park
Via Flickr:
Erik and I made our way a little farther north today. We visited Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado. These dunes are at 8000 feet. We both climbed quite a ways trudging up the dunes as we sank in the sand. The wind was really blowing and we felt like we were were getting sand blasted. I finally gave up and let Erik go up a little ways further while I waited. We watched a storm blow in from the South. I love watching storms in the desert. I picked a black and white shot to show greater detail, but the blue sky was absolutely breathtaking. You can see all of my photos from this trip here. www.flickr.com/photos/roswellsgirl/with/5972545755/

07-22-11 Oklahoma City National Memorial

Today we drove to Oklahoma City. We arrived at the memorial at dusk. It is a pretty powerful experience. Thought about the events of the day in Norway. Sad that history repeats itself.

My parents are celebrating 50 Years of Marriage this month. We visited the church where they were married. They are such a fine example of love, commitment and faith.

Via Flickr:
We made a side trip to Dublin, Tx. to visit the home of the first Dr Pepper bottling plant.

07/17/11 Ocotillo
Via Flickr:
Lots of driving through the desert today. We explored the quirky town of Roswell, New Mexico and then went to Carlsbad Caverns before heading to Midland, Texas for the evening. The hills around Carlsbad Caverns had been scorched by recent fires. Charred cactus made the landscape look even more bleak. Saw these blooms just either starting or finishing on this spared cactus near the visitor center.

07-15-11 Navajo Nation
Via Flickr:
We traveled across the Navajo Nation today. This brought back such great memories of my first teaching job teaching kindergarten in Tuba City. That was a great start to my teaching career. We traveled from the Navajo Nation to another favorite place, Santa Fe. Sad to see the smokey skies an fires so near one of our favorite spots.
Here is a link to all of my photos so far from our trip.
07-14-11 Monument Valley from Ansel Adam's View
Via Flickr:
Chase was thrilled to find out that Ansel Adams had shot at Monument Valley. Even more thrilled to find out the exact location. Using his iPhone with a photo, he did his best to recreate the photo. With processing in black and white with film grain, he came pretty close. For me, being back on the Navajo Nation was very special. This was where I started my teaching career 22 years ago.
07-13-11 Zion National Park
Via Flickr:
Great day at beautiful Zion. We had fun sharing the Narrows experience with Chase. We hiked up the cold, higher than normal and swift Virgin River deep into the canyon. The walls got steeper and higher and closer in as we moved farther up the canyon. This was my 3rd time up the narrows. It was fun to do this with Chase. I think that he wasn't so sure about the whole hike until we got started and then he was hooked. What an incredible experience.

07/12/11 Bryce Canyon
Via Flickr:
Beautiful day at Bryce Canyon. We watched stormy weather come and go and blue, blue skies make an appearance.
07/11/11 Colter Bay Grand Teton
Via Flickr:
Amazing beauty again today. We traveled through Grand Teton National Park and then in and out of Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming ending our day with an incredible view of a rainbow and storms from the steps of the Utah capitol and then an impromptu accoustic concert from a band recording in the deserted capitol building. Again, so many photos to share, and I only get to pick one photo per day.
07/10/11 Mammoth Hot Springs
Via Flickr:
Beautiful day in Yellowstone today. We were up early to see animals. We were not dissapointed. We saw 5 bears, lots of bison and elk and more. Hard to pick just one photo to share on a day like today.
07/09/11 Ansel Wade
Via Flickr:
This year's summer road trip us extra special because we have our nephew Chase with us. He is studying photography (and math) and Ansel Adams is his hero. He and I hiked to the perfect place so that he could recreate an Adams photo. We have many other Ansel points planned on our trip.
07/08/11 Texas Breakfast at Jimmys Down the Street

Featured on Diner's Drive Ins and Dives
We started our morning by eating at this yummy place featured in DDD in Coeur d'Alene. We didn't eat again until dinner.

07-06-11 Vancouver
Via Flickr:
Today Chase and I took the train to Vancouver. First time in Canada for Chase. The train ride was beautiful traveling along the waterfront with great views of the mountains. We didn't have a super long time to explore in Vancouver, but it was a very full and fun day.

Enjoyed a day showing Chase around the beautiful area where I am blessed to live. I promised him an eagle, and I delivered.
07-03-11 Meet the Producer
Via Flickr:
Spent a glorious afternoon and evening in Seattle after picking up Chase, my nephew and our new road buddy from the airport. Perfect weather. A welcome change from the 100 degree heat and humidity he came from in Texas.

Via Flickr:
Another Holden day. First to the Farmer's Market (for socializtion), then his "grandma" came for a visit (she will be staying with him while we are on our road trip), then a trip to the dog park, then a visit from another dog sitter friend. All about Holden all day long.

We have a family of squirrels living in our fir trees. So much fun to chase each other up and down and around the trees. Not only do I enjoy watching, Holden sits by the window mesmerized.
