Almost missed my opportunity for a photo today. Caught this just as it was getting a bit too dark to shoot with my point and shoot.

08/28/11 Rookies
Via Flickr:
We went to our first Mariners game of the year today. The weather was perfect. The game, not so much. But we still had fun. Love all the fun traditions that the Mariners have. The rookie pitchers have to wear pink backpacks as they cross the field to the bullpen at the beginning of the game. I noticed one actually bucked the trend and is wearing a cool R2D2 backpack.

08/27/11 Tomatoes in the Name of Love
Via Flickr:
Saw these pretty tomatoes at the farmer's market this morning. Made me think of my nephew Chase who has a future father in law who loves growing tomatoes. Because of this, Chase is becoming less of a picky eater and learning to eat tomatoes.

08/25/11 This Place Matters!
Via Flickr:
We have a battle brewing in my beloved downtown Mount Vernon over the opening of this new restaurant. The mayor opposes and the reasons given do not make sense, leading everyone else to come up with their own conclusions and causing lots of strife and hurt feelings. This makes me sad. I love my community and the fact that we have many different cultures, talents, and ideas represented. The signs in the window are actually part of a campaign to preserve our beautiful old town, but they have taken on new meaning as some are being denied the right to be included in the tapestry that is our historic downtown. More important to me than place are the people who are being hurt by this rip in our beautiful tapestry. The Carreons are my dear friends and neighbors and have added so much to our community. Although I am saddened by the strife, I don't like conflict, I am uplifted by the coming together of our community to support our friends and neighbors. This place does matter and the people behind this place matter as well.

08/24/11 My View Someday
Via Flickr:
Looked out my kitchen window and saw a beautiful sunset, but there were pesky powerlines in the way. I went upstairs and craned my self around the side window to get this view. Some day we will have dormers and it will be much easier to see this view every day.

Another sign that fall is near. The asters are blooming much to this bumblebee's delight.
08/22/11 Changing
Via Flickr:
In the summer that wasn't colors have begun to change reminding us the fall is around the corner.
08/21/11 Clear Cut
Via Flickr:
I am always saddened by seeing clear cuts in the beautiful rain forest. Most of the giants from this view are gone years ago. Exploring the forest you can find great stumps of cedar trees that must have been 1000 years old before they were cut early last century. The trees you see were planted about 40 years ago. They are now beginning to cut those trees. Our property is the still forested area in the middle of the picture. We are going to continue to enjoy watching our trees grow.
08/20/11 Kalaloch
Via Flickr:
After a full day of work and play on our property, we took a break and went to watch the sunset at Kalaloch.
08/19/11 Lake Quinault
Via Flickr:
We finally got a chance to head out to our property this weekend. We made a quick stop at Lake Quinault along the way.

Drove across the beautiful state of Washington on a truly beautiful summer day today. Eastern Washington has such different vistas than Western Washington. Love seeing the rolling hills and the waiving wheat.

Trying to stay focused on school work this afternoon. That is a bit easier to do with the gray skies. But I did take a little time out to enjoy my garden.

We really do feed him, but he seems to be hungry all the time. I guess that is what growing almost a pound a day can do for you.

08/09/11 Eating his Veggies
Via Flickr:
Holden loves to harvest and eat items from our garden. In this photo I am feeding him a sugar snap pea, but he would be just as happy picking peas, raspberries, apples or blueberries right off the plant.

The potato plants are blooming all around the valley. Not as spectacular as the tulips, but still pretty.

08/07/11 Wheat
Via Flickr:
Quick drive through the farm fields today. Unfortunately, my plate is pretty full with school work right now, but I want to make sure that I take at least a little time each day to see the beauty around me. Love the texture of the wheat, the clouds and the barn.

08/06/11 Farmer's Market Fresh

Made our weekly walk to the Farmer's Market this morning. We rarely buy much. We go to socialize both our dog and ourselves. Great to get out and enjoy the bounty of our valley with our neighbors.

Quick trip out to the fields this morning. The Olympics were out. This was drive by shot. Decided the best I could do with it was make it black and white.

Another of my garden treasures. I have a feeling there will be lots of post from my garden this month as I plan to stay close to home after traveling over 7500 miles last month.
