He may look like a wise old dog, but really he is just a very goofy giant puppy.
09/28/11 Space Needle
Via Flickr:
Coming back from my trip, I drove under the Space Needle. People who live in Western Washington have to acknowledge blue sky days like this one.

Was able to do just a bit more of sightseeing after the workshop today. Learned so much at the workshop and really enjoyed my time here in Maine. So much great stuff to bring back with me tomorrow.

Great day of learning at the Google Geo Teachers Institute in Lewiston, Maine. So busy getting Googley, that I didn't have time for many photos. Saw this old sign painted on one of the buildings in Lewiston. It made me smile.

Eaton, New Hampshire
Via Flickr:
Beautiful day of driving and exploring around Maine and New Hampshire. I mapped out a bunch of old covered bridges and headed out on a beautiful drive with winding roads and quaint old towns. The leaves aren't quite there yet, but there were a few hints of what it might look like in a week or two.

Via Flickr:
Traveled to Maine this weekend for a Google Geo Institute. Came for the weekend before the class so I could explore and take lots of photos. When I got in this morning, I headed up the coast. Lots of beautiful villages and shoreline.

09/23/11 Rows and Rows
Via Flickr:
One of those days. I was inspired by one of my local Flickr friends. @SwitcherMark who had a very interesting photo of the fallow fields yesterday. Unfortunately, my window of time to take a picture today, did not provide very good light. I will be back for another picture on another day. Learning as I go.

09/18/11 Potato Harvest
Via Flickr:
Today I harvested my potatoes. One bin of blue, one of red and one of yellow. Not quite as impressive as this truck full, but fun just the same.

Via Flickr:
Pretty sky this morning. I am guessing that the farmers would rather the birds stay away from the corn, but it adds interest to the photo.

Llamas are such goofy looking characters. I've had some encounters in Ecuador with llamas that taught me that they aren't always the nicest of creatures either, but this particular guy was pretty friendly.

09/08/11 Hill Top View

Another busy day. Almost missed getting a photo. Not the best composition, but this is where I was when the sun was setting and I still didn't have a picture. There are fires on the Olympic Peninsula giving us brilliant sunsets.

09/07/11 The Honor System
Via Flickr:
People use the honor system to buy fresh flowers by the side of the road. So busy today with the first day of school and yet I neglected to capture a photo that says the first day of school. I was running around just a bit too fast today... :)

I think that Holden may love going out to our property and camping just as much as our sweet Roswell did. He was such a happy camper and now he is one pooped pup.
09-2-11 Salal Shadows
Via Flickr:
We went to our property on the Olympic Peninsula this weekend. I love being there and it is beautiful and peaceful, but with the thick forest, I have a hard time getting good photos. This time, I decided to really think about lighting and shadows instead of color. Tried this in black and white, but ended up liking it better in color.

09/01/11 Proud!
Via Flickr:
I first had Felicia as 3rd grader in my 5th grade level reading class. We were reading a book called "The Bread Winner" about an Afghani girl who had to disguise herself as a boy to go to the market to get food. Felicia asked such thoughtful questions, well beyond her years. She had such great concern about others and had a bigger picture of world issues than most of my students. I was impressed. I then had the pleasure to have her for 2 more years as a 5th and 6th grade student in my homeroom class. She continued to amaze me. That whole class family amazed me with their concern for world issues and their desire to make the world a better place. Today, Felicia stood as a high school senior and spoke to all the employees in the district at our back to school kick off. She shared about how teachers had helped to shape her life and the fact that she has big plans for her future, including running for public office some day. I am so proud!
